This year’s National Salvation Army Week runs May 14–20. The occasion is The Salvation Army’s way of thanking the volunteers and donors who’ve made the organization one of the world’s largest and most trusted charities.

Last year, thanks to all of our generous donors and more than 6000 volunteers the Northern New England Division which covers Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont was able to provide a wide array of programs and services that include: food for the hungry, gifts and counsel to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless, opportunities for underprivileged children, relief for disaster victims, early childhood learning centers and camping programs for youth.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower declared the first National Salvation Army Week in 1954 as a reminder to Americans to give freely of themselves, saying, “Among Americans, The Salvation Army has long been a symbol of wholehearted dedication to the cause of brotherhood.”
